Amino acids are used in the body to produce proteins that are needed for cells to form, and are included in the biochemical structure of hormones, enzymes, neurotransmitters and antibodies. There are two types of amino acids, essential and non-essential. Non-essential amino acids can be produced by our body itself; however, essential amino acids must be absorbed by the body from food.

Lysine is an essential amino acid and is therefore one of the eight amino acids that our bodies can not make, so we are completely reliant on our diets to provide sufficient lysine. It is used by the body in a number of ways and, particularly in the formation of collagen, the most abundant protein in the body. The ability of lysine to limit viral replication or cell division has been reported, which may reduce the frequency of Herpes Simplex (Type I). This in turn can help prevent outbreaks of herpes and cold sores and shorten the active period.

Lysine is most abundant in animal foods (eg meat), which is why experts believe that vegetarians and vegans may have lower levels of lysine than usual and are at risk of having this amino acid deficiency. The deficit is determined by your doctor according to the blood tests performed.

It is not recommended to use lysine with the amino acid L-Carnitine, as co-administration results in an antagonistic or reciprocal effect of these amino acids and a consequent decrease in their effect.

Lamberts L-Lysine 500mg provides a grade of lysine called USP which is the quality used in clinical nutrition products.

Who should use Lamberts L-Lysine 1000mg:

  • People with outbreaks of “cold sores” and herpes;
  • People who want to shorten the active outbreaks of herpes;
  • People who take iron supplements and need to increase the bioavailability of iron;
  • People who want to support the formation of collagen;
  • Vegetarians and vegans with insufficient lysine in their diet;
  • People who have been tested for lysine deficiency.

Directions: Take 1 to 2 tablets daily with water or fruit juice, or as directed by a practitioner or pharmacist.  It is preferable to take amino acids with fruit juice or water, rather than milk. An amino acid is best taken half an hour before any meal or at bedtime. Do not exceed recommended daily dose.

Cautions: This product is not recommended for children or pregnant or lactating women. Keep away from children.

Food supplements should not be a substitute for a varied diet. To be stored in a cool, dry place and protected from light.

120 tablets.
